Ok so i have been kicking around the idea for a long time now. I'm starting another XS build and I'm pretty dead set on installing a suicide shifter. Obviously the name says it all but i want to know, has anyone ever had serious issues RECENTLY? In have heard horror stories from back in the day but that was years ago. with new engineering i don't think its as much of a risk, not like it matters. Opinions please!!!

You want an opinion? Here ya go. IMO trying to retro-engineer a Japanese bike from the 1970's to look like something from the 1940's is a waste of time and money.
You're right re. technology. The term "suicide clutch" was originally coined in reference to 2-plate dry clutch systems that had two degrees of engagement--on and off. Later generations extended the term to any foot clutch/hand shift system.
