I have a 1979 xs650 special and the stock exhaust sounds terrible, it just needs replacing. Instead of purchasing an entire new exhaust i was going to leave it as straight headers. If I am going to just run straight headers, what do i need to do "rejetting" wise. Or any other exhaust sites with links would be appreciated..thaks

My experience is a loss of power except maybe at he very top end will result with just running your headers. Tuning seems to be more of a problem in the lower and mid-ranges as well. As far as rejetting if you put on some more free flowing air cleaners a ballpark place to start would be 2 sizes up on the mains and 1 on the pilots. Good luck Skimmer

Are you going to run the "stock" headers? I wouldn't, too short in my opinion and you should lose the double wall pipes if you have them. I ran Hooker headers back in the late 70's early 80's with a 750 kit, Lectron carbs and an electronic ignition... Ran like a bat out of hell all the way thru the gears... Yo, Rod
