The first nice week of Spring was finally here, he had been working at his desk all winter and had watched the weather turn from cold and snow to sunshine and green grass. The weekend weather looked promising for his first ride of the Spring. All week he had come home from work, ate supper and headed to the garage to make sure his bike was ready to ride on Saturday. He had checked everything on the bike that could possibly go wrong, and if it wasn't raining in the morning he was off and riding.
When Saturday morning came, the sun was out bright and warm, the sky was wall to wall blue, his wife had to work, his teenage kids had their own agenda, so he was free to ride. He walked out to the garage and fired up the 650 twin, left it warm up a little and headed to the gas station to top off the tank. His plan was to ride the bike as far away from home as the full tank of gas would take him and then turn around and head home. He wanted to get rid of all the old gas that was in the bike from winter storage. Some three hours later the 650 twin sputtered and started to run out of gas, it was time to find a gas station and fill it up for the trip home.
He was getting hungry, so he found a quickie burger joint and had a burger, fries and a coke for lunch before heading for home. He was so excited about his first ride of Spring that he couldn't even tell you the name of the burger joint, it just wasn't important enough today. On the way home the temperature had warmed up to the point where he didn't need a jacket, it had turned out to be a perfect day. As the 650 twin loafed along at 55 mph, he started thinking, he was without a care in the world, life was great, Spring was here and it was going to be a great summer of riding.
As the afternoon sun started to head toward the west, he leaned the 650 twin into his driveway and coasted to a stop in front of the garage door. What a great day it had been, it was good to be alive !!
While he was sitting there on the bike reflecting on the day, he heard an alarm sounding very faint off in the distance, then it got louder and louder. Soon it could no longer be ignored and he had to do something to quiet it down before it disturbed the neighbors. He rolled over in bed and looked at the alarm clock, it was 5:00 am and time to get up and get ready for work. As he headed for the bathroom he looked outside at the snow covered streets and realized that his first ride of Spring had been nothing but a vivid dream. He groaned to himself and said out loud..."I should have moved to Florida" !!
;D
