I learnt a couple of new things today about my bike. I now know why the guy who sold me my bike gave me such a bloody great big padlock and chain.
I was making my journey from western Sydney into the middle of the city after seeing my girlfriend since i had to work. It was the first fairly long trip i'd done on my bike and while it wasn't pretty (since the sleave inside my exhaust headpipe seems to have come lose and is vibrating like hell) the weather was good and there was no rush to get to work. I even managed to group up with a couple of other guys on bikes on the highway along the way which always makes a trip more fun.
As i pull into work though and go to put my bike into neutral as i try and get a ticket from the ticket booth i look at the little green light noticing the absence of my keys!! I wasn't freaking out by this stage since there was a chance they were in my pocket, but as you can guess they weren't.
So i'm standing there in the carpark with my bike on and my buddies from work ask what is wrong and i tell em that i lost my keys on the way and i can't turn my bike off. So i'm pretty embarrassed overall, a good trip turned into a pretty bad one very quickly. I thought i'd be smart and disconnect the battery, but ofcourse it was locked then i thought i could use the killswitch but if someone was gonna steal a bike of this vintage they'd know that if the bike was on but no power there'd be a killswitch, so i decided to start disconnecting the power to the starter relay.
As i was doing this though, one of the security guards from my work sees me as some punk kid trying to mess up someones bike lol... but luckily i knew him. As it turns out he used to have a 76c and my bike was parked next to his new bike and i didn't even know he rode!
I explained what happened and he laughed, took out his house keys and turned off my bike. I can't describe how shocked/amazed/grateful i was at the sametime.
He said he could do the same thing with his old bike and that he wished he never got rid of his now. But i have to know.. is this a common thing with the xs and is there anyway to overcome this special feature? lol anybody could walk up and start my bike.. god i hate the thought.. So is there anything that can be done?
