I'm new to this forum. Bought my first XS-1 in the summer of '70 for $1245, brand new! In February, 1971, I took her for a solo spin from San Francisco to Miami. I flew off to South America for several months and when I returned, rode up the East Coast and up towards Canada back to California. About a 10,000 mile trip it was. My brother, by then had bought it's green twin. Our neighbors hated us. That firs bike lasted about 7 years. I even rode it daily when I lived up on Donner Pass in the winters. My last ride on it was from SF to Tucson...in one day! I remember that I fell asleep between Phoenix and Tucson and woke up riding off the road in the brush. My poor bike! I sold my trusty friend in 1977 for about $150 to a guy that didn't care much about the worn out condition my bike was in.
I always wanted another one. Not a gold one or a red one or any of the improved models since the first year 1970. I wanted the green one. And I found one about 5 years ago up in Washington State. It's not perfect but it's pretty much a 9.5 out of ten! The owner had bought it partially restored and continued on the project. The only "improvements" on the new one is that it has electronic ignition and a hydraulic clutch cable system off a Ducati. The original parts live in a box in the garage. I ride it in the summer months only these days. I have a BMW k1600 for the long rides so my XS-1 only does about 50 or so miles per ride these days. Would I want to take it back across the country? My heart says yes but my body says no way! Anyhow, we all have XS stories so I'll cut this short. I'm glad I found the forum! Since this is my first time on, I'll try and post a picture of my eternal sweet heart bike. If anyone lives around the Bay Area, let me know and we can go on a cruise.
