The time has come to list the bambino, much as I regret doing it. Photos are a bit too big to post here, so I put a link to Photobucket at the bottom. I hope it works.
21,xxx miles, LOTS of upgrades. I still have a few items on my list to add/get done, but nothing major. I promised to give forum members here first dibbies on it, but after changing pc's a few times I lost the password/login name for a while and ended up doing Ebay and Craigslist first...sorry about that.
I'll cheat and cut-n-paste the other ads, because my fingers are too lazy to tap everything all out again. Feel free to pass it around to other forums or people if you want. If you have any questions, email me at headcase01@comcast.net
It's pretty much unmolested, and hope it'll stay that way. As most of us know, it's a constant chase to take care of all the little annoyances and fixes and mine is no exception. The side cover hardware is the latest thing that's cheesing me off. Newer latches/rubber mounts from *Guess Who* have recently decided to fall to pieces, so the fun continues. I know some people don't like the bags/shield/road trip add-ons. The stuff comes off though, and it still looks pretty good without it all. My initial asking price is a ballpark. If you think it might be worth more, that'll work. If it's too high, please say so....I'm just tossing a price out there. $2300.
Thanks gang! - Dan

1979 Yamaha XS650 SF Special. 21,430 miles at the time of listing.
Upgrades and new parts done in the last 4000 miles:
-Shinko 712 front tire, with tube. Balanced.
-Rebuilt front and rear brake calipers, fluid flush.
-Front fork brace installed.
-Synthetic ATF in forks.
-Tapered steering head bearings.
-Pamco electronic ignition with coil and wires, good plugs.
-Cam chain and both guides.
-Aftermarket headpipes with Dunstall adjustable-packing mufflers.
-Cylinder head/bore gaskets. Side cover gaskets and seals.
-Throttle and clutch cables.
-Tach cable.
-LED lights in both gauges and center stalk, also in front signals and tail/brake light.
-One piece custom made clutch pushrod seal. Uses replaceable teflon 5/16" valve seal. Works MUCH better than the factory rubber seal, haven't had a leak issue for 5 or more years.
-One piece clutch pushrod.
-Roller clutch bearing.
-Clutch cush springs
-Stainless steel rocker shaft plugs.
-Upgraded oil filter strainer.
-Bronze swingarm bushings.
-520 sprockets and drive chain; front 17t, rear 30t.
-Carb band clamps.
-Turn signal flasher updated to automotive unit, self-cancelling flasher removed.
-K&N style XS 52mm tapered oval pod air filters. These are NOT the restrictive cheap versions.
-Rubber clutch lever and clutch adjuster dust covers.
-XS Performance overdrive 5th gear.
-Alternator brush set.
-Various engine and transmission seals, everything I could replace without removing the crankshaft.
-Gas cap seal.
-Foam cushion handlebar grips. (Getting a bit worn)
-Front brake light switch.
-Copper drain plug gaskets.
-Carbs rebuilt 2011. Could use new bowl gaskets, seeps gas occasionally.
-Bigfoot shift lever.
-Both fuel petcocks replaced with non-vacuum units.
-MotoLanna stainless front turn signal relocation brackets installed, but signals not moved yet.
-Ignition switch with keys.
-Starter relay.
-New battery July 1 2017.
-Jafrum saddlebags, with tank, windshield and rear bags.
-Automotive blade-style fuse block replaced factory glass fuse panel.
I've replaced as many of the original fasteners/screws/bolts/nuts/washers/hardware as I could get to with stainless steel. I ride in all weather except snow and ice, so there are still a few spots that need detailing from surface rust, but nothing serious. Bike comes with all receipts and paperwork, small and large windshields, 5 bags, Clymer manual, clutch basket tool, very nice 1980's Canadian-made chrome crash bar (doesn't fit with the current headpipes, though), original exhaust headpipes, and a box of various spares that came with or were taken off bike over the years.
Parts/work needed:
-Rear shocks
-Rear turn signals are Honda, I don't have the OEM pieces. I moved them from stock location to the taillight bracket to make room for the saddlebags, but can be moved back if you want. I can't get LEDs to work in the rear signals for some reason. Maybe you'll have better luck. Also came with Harley front road pegs, but they've been removed. You can have those as well.
-Carbs were rebuilt, but recently removed bowls to do a cleaning and the bowl gaskets need replaced. They seep fuel occasionally, but nothing serious.
-Seat latch and lock have been removed, but I saved them for future re-install.
-Rear tire is still good, but getting a bit thin on tread. Will need replaced in the near future.
-Tank had a few dents and iffy paint when it arrived. The worst of it is gone, but will need some work if it's going to look perfect.
This is a nice riding, good handling, quick bike with plenty of power, but isn't perfect. I've kept it mostly stock looking, and would really like to see it go to a new home where it won't be cut up for a custom/bobber/whatever. I plan to continue improving it as long as I own it, so some minor things may be different than when the photos were taken.
