I see a lot of no spark, weak spark posts. But I don't see one for what I am trying to figure out.
1981 XS650 Special II No-points ignition
I'll make this short as possible. Bike has no battery in it. I am jumping it off a car battery. Battery has 12.65v, my jump box also has 12.60v. I've used both. I crank the engine over and I get one spark when I hit the starter button (sometimes) and one when when I left off (sometimes). Sometimes when I hold the plug wires away from the block, I can go back later and I will get a spark when I move the wire to the cooling fins. I'm not to the point yet of diagnosing fuel, carb, etc. Compression seems good, everything is on and it is a complete bike. I am wondering if my hot wiring job is the cause. I didn't get a key with the bike. Right now I am using a jumper wire to cross the red and blue wires in the ignition switch and running a jumper from the tan wire to the positive post on the battery. I get lights, starter, etc but no spark. I tried running a wire from the positive on the coil to the positive on the battery because that works with some of the spark issues on sportsters but it didn't make any difference in this case.
