Howdy there new friends! This is my first forum and also first xs650! I have to say so far I love the bike and I'm a huge Yamaha fan! I was wondering on these xs650s what has to be modified to be able to us the kick starter if the battery dies? If yall can help or point in the right direction that would be amazing!

In the stock alternator, the rotor will not magnetize unless it is powered by the battery. There are permanent magnet systems available that will enable kick starting if the battery is replaced with a capacitor, but these have their drawbadks. IMO your best bet is careful preventive maintenance on the charging system and battery.

Thanks for the advice! I got a another question! I just had the heads off to put in new rings, hown, new valves/ lap, and reseald everything. I got everything back together by the book and now It won't start. I have fuel but I also have week spark/ Intermittent spark on the left side only. Any thoughts the spark problem? I did not took any electrical comp. on the bike itself during rebuild.
