Hello you poor unfortunate souls.
I have a lot of old metal which I left to the tin worms when I lost my bottle a good few years back but, since the cancer thing bit me, I sort of have the WTF feeling again; so I looked in the shed and started a quick and dirty rebuild on a black/ gold special.
The C cost me most of a lung, but running on 1 and a bit pots is not new to xs650 owners.
What else I found in the shed
List goes
Blackjack made hardtail on wheels but thats all
81 se frame- the one with all the relays and daytime lights
5 engines in varying degrees of " not going to turn"
xs1 engine in bits that came with a deal, not known if complete
various wheels and bits
Oh and at the back was the old FJ1200- that one runs but needs a chassis overhaul, it got bent.
As you might guess I sort of liked the too tall twinpot when I was motorcycling a lot.
Unfortunately I hit a problem with the oil feed pipe to the head when dismantling the lump in that the brass base connector to the head feed dragged quite a lot of aluminium alloy from the case.Need to make up a new delivery pipe but thats no sweat.
I would like to do the job as factory as possible and have ordered taps for the thread size and pitch as near as I can gauge it on the few threads there are. If there is a smartie out there who knows whether it is 14x2.0, 14x1.75 or BSP for certain I would love to hear from them.
I am usually home and have a fair amount of tools so if you have issues near Northwich in Cheshire it might be worth emailing me.
I'd also like to hear from anybody who has fitted 32 or 34mm slides as I remembered I hate CVs and think slides should increase the torque and pickup from low to medium revs, they used to work quite well on the T120s and A10s I had as a kid.
They say nobody likes a smart ass, I love them (nice to meet a brother) and am usually pleased to buy them a beer or a coffee because you live and learn if you aren't all the way daft.
I prefer joneshomebody, I also answer to GOF which is what my friends tend to call me. Sometimes I'm a little grumpy and I'm old and the meds have an unfortunate effect on my digestion so I suggest you stand upwind (pun intended).
