Hi All I have a 1971 XS650 (XS1) with original points ignition. And it's driving me insane. Now i wonder if I can get a dual lobe cam (and prefereably wich one should i get?) remove one set of pints, using only one capasitor, but still use two single ignition coils? (mine are brand new Anyone tried this ? and to what outcome ? I have irratic firing behaviour. Where sometime it runs on 2, sometimes only on left cylinder.

Yes, you can run dual coils from a single points set by wiring the coils in series. Don't take that as a recommendation, though.
AFIK Mike's XS is the only source for dual lobe points cams for the XS650. In the EU the item might be available from Heiden Tuning. Don't take that as a recommendation either.

You'd suggest othervice ? eg. Electronic, or keeping the dual points ?

If timing the points gives you grief, I'd advise you to use an electronic ignition with electronic advance; the mechanical advance unit causes a host of problems. I use a Probe ignition; unfortunately it's no longer available. I used the Boyer ignition for many years, but I don't like the design; the timing plate is thin, poorly supported, and prone to warping. The PAMCO ignition is popular, but I have no experience with it.
