well, here I find myself looking forward to my 2nd divorce and freedom from the severe restraints and restrictions that I put up with the last 11 years. As has happened numerous times over my lifetime, my first street bike has been part of my life, and sometimes totally ignored due to various life events and time restraints. I traded in my 1975 XL350 in 1978 for one of the best looking bikes on the floor at Cycle East in Columbus, OH while serving in the USAF. Both the dealership and the active air force base are long gone. The last time I was able to ride it was in 2006. I road it to the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club rally which was held near me in Cadillac, MI. My current ride is a 1999 Triumph 900cc triple which I dearly love too. I have also owned a 2004 Bonneville which was not nearly as much fun as my XS650! I also owned a 2011 Triumph Speed Triple which due to purchasing some real estate I had to sell. Probably a good thing; only took me one week of ownership before I got a speeding ticket! Once I get my garage back, I plan on spending some time restoring it to it's former glory. I was a early member of the Yamaha 650 Society(#584) (I still have years and years of the Newsletters in 3-ring binders) First thing on the list that I need to research on here is the frozen front caliper. Thanks for listening, I look forward to getting to know my way around here! If your born to be shot, you'll never drown.

Welcome aboard! I read your post on the Society Facebook page; that E-model standard is a beauty.

On the caliper front, pun intended, bite the bullet and get new stainless steel piston and seals. The rebuild is easy just make sure you clean all the crap out of the groove in the caliper and fit the ring the right way round. If you want more feel and control at the lever, check you have a 13mm rather than a 14mm master, if not change it, imho it is the only thing that spoils the bike.
