My all time favorite motorcycle is the Yamaha XS650, but in 1983 I had a pretty serious wreck on my 79 or 80 (can't remember but it was red with cast aluminum wheels). I was about a year getting over the physical and emotional damage and haven't ridden since but the last few years have been tugging at me to get back on another XS650. I've seen the new stuff and I still want an XS650. To me it's about the most perfect bike ever made with the exception of a tendency to get a front end wobble, which is how I wound up in ICU for several weeks and a stainless steel rod through my face. So, fast forward 31 years and I want to ride again and I'm most interested in another XS. I'm here to learn from you guys. BTW, I was a year round rider and as long as it wasn't snow or ice, I was riding my XS. I remember riding to work at 6 in the morning at 17degreesF and was perfectly comfortable. I loved it! I want to love it again.

Welcome, Charlotte! Riding to work at 17* F--yeah, that brings back memories of the '60's, when I was in the teens and early twenties; didn't feel so bad then, but I'm not even tempted to do it now!
Anyway, hope you find a good XS650, but be ready to do a lot of refurb work. Re. the front end wobblies, that oscillation shouldn't happen if the suspension and tires are properly set up and maintained. You'll find some good pointers here if you look around. Anyway, when you find your machine, we'll be here for you. Good hunting to you!
