I am the second owner of a 79 XS650 Special which I bought just over 30 years ago it but has been sitting for quite a while. It has about 7K miles and is in pretty good shape (still has the original tires). I started restoring it last year and have finally gotten it running with everything working. This involved changing almost every rubber part on it, removing rust from the gas tank (very time consuming), redoing the carbs, rebuilding brakes, etc. Would like to either repaint the tank (carmine red) or touch up a couple spots. Anyone know where I can get some carmine red touch up paint? The intent was to sell it once I was done and move up to something bigger but don't think that will happen now. I'll add pics later.

Welcome, WT. That's a familiar story--buy the bike to refurb and turn a buck, then find you can't turn loose. I just went through that with a 2001 Suzuki GS500E that sat for 6 years with a tankful of fuel. After two high pressure flushes at the car wash, two gallons of denatured alkie mixed with a gallon of acetone, 5 gallons of Metal Rescue (fortunately reusable), and a pint of Caswell 2-part epoxy, all is good. The lunkhead who worked on the bike (not the PO, a paid wrench, won't call him a pro) had cleaned the carbs, but left the bike with a fouled fuel valve. The brass in the carbs was bright, and the brass screens were blown out of the fuel valve. What happened was pretty clear. The "mechanic" had cleaned the carbs and tried to resolve the fuel flow issue by blowing compressed air up the line. That cleared things up momentarily, until the crud found its way back to its previous position in the fuel valve. Result: bike fuel starves on a full tank, owner gets frustrated and parks it for 6 years. The darn thing is too much fun to sell.
