Does a 1977 d model have an oil light fitted. Mine does and it only comes on with the rear brake light! The owner said it was rewired, he didn't say by stevie wonder though. The red light is the one above the ignition sw and the neutral light clearly marked oil on it. Has the red lamp been replaced with this oil one as I think it should be the charging light., help. Thanks chris r

Chris, wish I could help, but I've never seen an oil pressure or oil temp warning light on any XS650. If there's an oil temp or pressure sensor you should be able to find it tapped into an oil gallery in the crankcase or the left side engine cover that houses the oil pump. A look at the parts books (downloadable free from www.biker.net ) will show you what's there originally; anything more is an add-on. Is it possible that a dash from another bike was installed and the warning light is simply mislabeled for the XS650?
