I have a 1979 xs650. We started the wiring process today. I don't know what we did wrong? When we turn the key on it made the voltage regulator smoking hot, and the coils hot too with no spark to the plugs. I don't know what happen? And also none of the wiring diagrams I have found do not show a blue wire in the stator harness. I have a red, black, green, yellow, blue and 3 white wires. What is the blue wire?

This is from memory and a diagram for an 80 XS650G I have. Three white wires from stator to the rectifier. No blue wire from the stator, but there is a blue wire that gets grounded on the neutral switch to light the green neutral light. It should be energized with the ignition switch on. I think that thing had an interlock that sensed the neutral to keep people from starting it in gear so it my go to that starter lockout relay too.
