I just bought my third xs650, (I couldn't help it). Any way this bike is a clean and running 1980 XS650, the hardware on it looks allot like a 79 only with 34 mm carbs. I'm working the bugs out of it and the problem I'm having is the headlight doesn't work unless I jump the wires to the battery back at the headlight reserve unit on the wiring harness plug. The tail light and stop light and turn signals work just fine. My first thought would be that the headlight reserve unit is malfunction which is pretty common, but what I'm finding is that the power from the yellow wire into the relay assembly behind the right side cover is not pulling in the contacts on the relays. The relay assembly has 14 volts on yellow once the engine is running, but the relay assembly is not working to close the circuit. Is there a place I can get a new relay assembly? Has anyone ever taken the relay assembly apart and tried to fix it by filing the contacts. Or is the best approach to just bypass all that interlock stuff? I want this bike to be mostly stock.
Thanks Richard
