ive been workin at a friend's harley shop for a wile. he was tellin me about a battery elimintor sence i only use my kicker. he said it goes in place of the battery and it will charge and keep the lights working. like the old 6 volt system did. will it work on my 1980 xs650?

Using a PMA yes With stock excited rotor no With mag yes With points yes With back to back zener diodes yes With ac lighting yes With stock electronic ignition no With PamCo idfk
Far better with option for a charley horse is a tiny battery somewhere with the Banshee PMA conversion . It may not be cheap but if the engine is turning there will be spark . You'll have to check with Pete about minimum voltage for the PamCo ignition .
I did "bleed" and rectify current from a ARD for minimal lighting just to be daylight legal but it was worse than useless at night .
I also hid 8 lead acid "C" cells in the back bone of a custom to keep the lights on the required 30 seconds for WSDOT inspection ...
many ways to skin this cat .
