OK...got my bike back yesterday. It was stolen 8 years ago..and somehow it turned up after all these years. ;D
The ignition is gone...so are a lot of standard wires. I don't have any idea how the wires should be...so i hope to get some help in this forum.
it's a XS1, 1972, 650cc
Regulator has 3 wires : red, black and brown. and another bunch going into the engine itself.
To know wether the bike runs..i want to start it. So i need to know what wire goes where...just enough to get a spark !..lights etc will follow later on.
Does anyone has any idea...or a basic wiring diagram to get the bike started somehow ?

You need a manual if you're going to get that bike straightened out, but here's a bit to get you started.
The part you're calling the regulator is in fact the rectifier (located under the battery box). Its job is to turn the alternating current produced by the alternator into direct current that won't destroy the battery. The black wire goes to ground, the red wire goes to the battery, and the white wires carry AC from the alternator stator to the rectifier diodes, which pass current only one way, turning AC into DC.
The regulator is under the left side cover on your bike, if I recall correctly. Its job is to keep the battery from overcharging. It takes 3 wires: black, brown, and dark green. The black wire runs to the negative brush of the alternator, which is grounded via the stator cover. The brown wire goes to the brown switched power leads in the harness. The dark green wire goes to the insulated brush in the alternator.
If the connectors are still there, the hookups should be plug-and-play.
When you say the ignition is missing, do you mean the switch or the ignition assembly itself (points, advance rod, and automatic timing unit)?
Congrats on getting your bike back!
