Do any of you guys know of and performance books on the XS650? I’m about to start on my 82 engine and thought I would like to read up on the possibilities. I have an understanding of porting and cam variations but only as it applies to other bikes and Porsches. I need something specific to the XS650 so I can educate myself rather than experimenting that seems like it could work. I have a spare XS1 cam I want to use on the 447 engine. I’ll need to do the math and degree the sprocket to get it pressed on correctly and I want to read up on rephrase too.
I feel like my 71 was rushed job, now that I have it to ride I’d like to take my time on the 82 and see what is possible. That usually starts with reading which I have been doing on line, but I wonder if there is something more in print . So if one of you guys could point me in the right direction I’d appreciate it.
Thanks Richard

Visit www.650central.com and buy Craig Weeks XS650 Performance book. Search for the Joe Minton article, "Building a Better Twin".

Read the Minton article on Building a Better Twin, but I hadn't heard of Craig Weeks. I'll get it.
Thanks Tom

Take what Minton wrote with more than a grain of salt--a shaker full or so should do it. In particular, don't believe the claim that stock valve springs will stand up to service with a fast ramp Shell #1 cam. Craig Weeks' manual is by far the most accurate, comprehensive, and readable source I know of--a lot of bang for the buck.

Affirmative. The manual is sold as a PDF download only, and that is Craig's site.

Ok thanks . PDF is ok, anymore these days I get a little spooked when it comes to using credit cards on sites I don’t know. I see the https but that is not as secure as it used to be, so I wonder.
