I recently snagged a nifty cam mount with a suction cup base and fairly good adjustments for camera angle. I've seen a handful of in-action XS650 ride videos, but most are pretty violent with the vibes and wind noise. Has anyone come up with their own way of doing this with success? The best I've been able to do so far is mount it on the tank next to the cap and shoot through the windscreen. But the wind noise is unreal, and would like to get the true sound of the bike on the road. I have a few ideas to try yet, but would like to hear about other's attempts and what worked, or what didn't. Helmet cam is a no-go for me with this setup, but let's hear your experiences.

Its great that you have brought up this discussion cause i have been wondering about this also.. Most videos i have watched on youtube etc, either have quite a bit of wind noise "or" put music to their vids (most of the time crap music may i add) so that it covers the wind noise up.. A mate of mine mentioned that on some editing programs you can eradicate a significant amount of certain noises or sounds. Vegas i think is one of them but be sure to confirm that before you splurge any amount of dollars on it. I have yet too try it myself. If anyone has better advice i too would love to hear it.

Kass - I think the Yami makes a good enough soundtrack already. No music on mine, promise. I've monkeyed together temporary mounts for the car at the track, and the boat as well. The car has a bit too much bass 'boom' inside and freaks the mic on the camera out. The boat was ok until it planed out, then the wind noise was really bad. I'm thinking about making a small foam baffle for the front of the cam over the condenser mic pinhole to cancel the noise. The only other issue then is the vibrating of the bike. There's almost nowhere to mount it that doesn't buzz like mad at speed. I'm too stubborn to quit anytime soon though. If you do try anything, keep us informed  |

Dan.. Another trick someone just mentioned to me to reduce the noise is put tape over the mike of the camera.. Ive never tried it myself but thought id mention to ya.. Yeah if i try anything out or come up with something better ill definately keep ya informed.. The foam baffle idea is gold if ya ask me.. As far as vibration is concerned its a hard one..

I did try the tape trick once, it seemed to help a little, but mainly blocked most of any sound. I have an idea for a piece of foam, but I'll save the details until after I see if it works. Wouldn't want to embarrass myself too bad just yet.
Another thing to consider is wrap your cam batteries with enough masking tape to hold them firm in the cam, or they will rattle like a mofo and totally ruin the audio. Test drive #2 coming up to see how it works.....
