Ready to paint the XS650 Special frame & tank! The records state that the XS650 Special SG 1980 came in Cardinal Red / New Yamaha Black! Does that mean the Fuel Tank is Cardinal Red & the frame is New Yamaha Black??? Or the Fuel tank is either Cardinal Red or New Yamaha Black??? Restoring to original colors. Also can someone explain to me what "Not Dot Approved for Highway use" means?? Would if be approved for Australian Highways???
cheers Grumpy from Down Under..... :-/

If you bought something from the States that has a DOT sticker on it, you should be fine, as long as you use it In Oz upside down DOT is Department of Transportation. We here Up Over have to run DOT approved helmets, tires etc. Honestly don't know if it carries any weight where you are though. Nascar approved rims for racing obviously are pretty tough, but technically they aren't DOT approved, so we here can't use them legally on our street cars. Go figure. A lot of us would like to put a 'Disapproved' sticker on the front door of the DOT, but such is big government. In other words, I have no idea if it's worth anything to you. Pretty sure the two paint colors were choices of factory paint on the tank and side covers. As far as I know all frames were black new. Let's see some pics!

Cheers for that info! Now it's the choice of Cardinal Red or New Yamaha Black?
