well i have finally found a bike to start my build on , I'm not sure what you want to call it but it will have a a hardtail, sporty tank, and a solo seat. so i figure it'll have a chopper/bobber look to it. I have had many motorcycles and have been riding since i was 8 and I'm 31 now. its my first real bike project as i mostly do bike resto's and hotrods, but i can do it all from fabing, engine building to painting and everything in between. I'm starting off with a 1980 xs650sg i will keep the stock wheels and hardtail the stock frame but other than that and the motor it will be all custom made by me. i will post a follow up article as the build progresses so you can laugh or drool as you see fit. , i dont know how to post pics on this board yet so bear with me.
thanks and feedback good or bad is welcome! but if its bad there better be good reason, not "just because I dont like it"bs

Griz sent ya trolling for me , right ? admit it will ya ..... (inside jk , stick around long enough and you won't have to ask ) I have occasionally been misunderstood here as a chop basher . I'm just taking another opportunity to clarify my feelings . I do view the me too , sawzall , gas pipe , peanut tank , whitewall , primer , foot clutch , hand shift , look at me I'm the next thing in custom motorcycles crowd with disdain , indifference and ultimately pity . How ever ... I do consider the above to be a step above the politically correct masses that have never so much as sat on a bike let alone ridden one , that continually attempt to regulate our freedom of choice simply because we don't conform to their idea of normalcy. I pity the me too attitude because with all of the raw materials and information available to them they insist on a trend driven form of purposeful ignorance that results in a rough and ofttimes dangerous collection of parts with all the aesthetic sense of Rube Goldsberg . Form need not follow function nor function follow form . A clear design vision need not be yours , someone else's , unique or ubiquitous . All I'm really ranting about is that the XS as we know it is NOT an endless resource . The original design as well as the ideas of the custom builder need to be appreciated and preserved . The waste that I have see in just the last 5 years specifically pertaining to the mindless destruction of parts, pieces and whole motorcycles in the name of "Customization" just makes me ill . Ride a motorcycle , restore a motorcycle , race a motorcycle or build one from scratch . Just please do any and all of these things with a conscience and an eye to the future when there are no more of these to be found . Never known as a purist but known for his work ethic and attention to detail all his life John "Lil John" Buterra may have said it best . " When you continuously challenge yourself to make every part , every assembly the very best that you can the result will always be greater than the sum total of the parts . Go back over my few posts here and notice that I'll help anyone with anything I'm familiar with . As far as I'm concerned you can go down the road bare a##ed naked , upside down with a swivel caster on your skid lid . It is your right to be different . Just don't expect me to sit idly by while one of my favorite models is decimated by "me too" self proclaimed sawzall artists . Now if that same "me too" asks about oil pump assembly , jetting the BS 36-38 with individual filters or just a simple what if , I'll help where I can . That enough reason for ya ? If not ... xs650forum.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=2570&page=1#11138End rant . I now return to being the grumpy and spiteful old man that you have (will) become accustomed to . ~kop

thanks bro, are there any good shows around in cali? I used to go to a lot of hotrod shows with my sled, (a few of em had bikes), but they are getting quite played out with all the deep pocket posers around... you know what i mean?

Once in awhile I go to a local swap meet in Long Beach at Vet's Stadium, lotta regular people there... no sponsored stuff anyway. Kinda far for a swap meet. Kop, I gotta admit the intro, all of it, is freakin priceless... I bet Dick did put him up to "trollin for ya". This guy must be a writer..... Just none of that cause you don't like it crapp... OK?
