Hi, Just purchased a XS650 Special 1980 for restoring. I'm new to the Yamaha world being a Honda, Kawasaki & Suzuki man over the years. Debating wether to Restore or turn into a Bobber!!!
cheers Grumpy.............

You've turned your "debate" into an either/or question. There are modifications that improve ridability and there are modifications that destroy it. Start by asking yourself whether you want a motorcycle or a fashion accessory.

Maybe restore first, then ride a while to decide whether or not to get the hot wrench out? Easier to slice stuff off than to put it back on if you decide go back. I do recommend wearing a helmet at all times...at least while discussing stock vs modified here. Good points and opinions from both sides, but sometimes the yelling starts and tools go flying. Let's see photos no matter which way you decide to go! Dan
