I moved to the Washington DC area a year ago from Europe and brought a 1977 XS 650 with me. This is a bike I inherited from my brother a few years ago when he passed away. Unfortunately, he was the one with the mechanical skills and knowledge, while I just enjoy riding this beautiful piece of machinery. Still, I would like my brother's baby to be taken care of properly.
So I am looking for someone in the DC area who I can trust with the bike and who doesn't charge through the roof for working on it.
If znyone has any pointers, please do let me know.

I would get a good repair manual for it. Read it. Even if you have some one else work on it you will have some idea of what is being done. I might suggest doing some of the routine maintainence your self. Tune ups, oil changes. The bike is not a hard bike to work on. Welcome to our site and America. Being in the DC area you are not far from great riding. Once you get out side of the beltway the roads get less crowded. Getting off the main roads and cruising along the two lanes is what this bike does best. Anyway I don't know much about the DC area, Others may chime in and put in a few words of advice.
