So heres the story...I have a 78 650 that I bought this summer to make into a brat style bobber over the winter. Well about a month and a half ago I cut the mufflers off and have been running just straight pipes cut just behind the foot peg. Although I didn't think it would the bike still ran great, maybe even a little better. I was certain it was going to need to be rejetted. Well a little bit of time passed, I ran it some more (150 miles or so) and decided to rebuild the carbs and take off the air boxes and put pod filters on it...HUGE MISTAKE. The bike now back fires and misses and runs pretty much like dog sh*t!!! I cannot get it to go over 55mph and it will not rev while driving over 4500rpms, it feels like it is starving for gas. Well I figured ok, I modified the breathing aspect of the bike and now need to rejet it. I took the pilots from a 27.5 to a 30 and the mains from a 137.5 to 140. I still had the exact same problem so I went up two sizes in the main from a 140 to 145, believe it or not I still have the exact same problem. The only other mod that I did was putting in-line fuel filters on it, which I dont think even matters (please correct me if I am wrong) I need some good insite on what to do next. Are the mods that I made that drastic that I need to jet this thing up even higher that it is. Someone please help this fun project has turned into somewhat of a nightmare in no time!!! Thanks

Griz...I am actually glad that you replied to this post. My dad and I actually read thru your carb guide and found A LOT of useful info. You stated in the guide that going up two size on the main would be necessary for slight mods to the air flow system. I guess my question is are the mods that we made slight or major?? In your opinion what would you try next as far as jetting goes?
