I recently bought a 78 xs500. The only thing wrong with it is that it is idling between 2 and 3k. Which screw on the carbs is the idle speed? and what is the normal idle speed when it is warmed up? Attachments:

Mason...nice ride. Good price per unit of fun!
Do a bit of Internet searching for a maintenance/repair manual. It will definitely cover the routine stuff you should do with your new bike. If you locate a forum that deals specifically with the xs500 you will really get some good advice, pictures, etc.

...... because we're an XS650 site. I could tell you all about an XS650 but I know absolutely nothing about an XS500. And this is as it should be, no offense, but this is a specific list for a certain bike. If you get help here, be thankful, but don't be offended if you don't.

I posted here because the xs650 and 500 are extremely similar. The carbs on the 650's are the dual Mikuni CV's, right?

My first bike was a 74 TX500A. The Honda 4s had it beat. It was OK overall, but seeped oil at the head.
I think I still have the manual for the bike, but I think the idle set screw should be pretty obvious.

Just in case, another XS500 fan reads this: The XS500.proboards.com forum is dedicated to TX500 and XS500 bikes.
