I'm working on the area of the connections from the alternator to the rectifier/regulator from Mike's XS. I'm confused about the connections from the rotor. On the original Yamaha drawing, the black lead from the rotor goes to ground, and the green lead goes to the regulator. On your drawing, the black lead (ground) from the rotor is tied to the supply lead that powers the bike. Without a schematic or layout of P/N 24-2089, I can't tell for sure, but at first glance it appears that it won't work as drawn. can you scan the the drawing or connection layout of this part & send it to me at jhicks35 (at) bellsouth (dot) net? Without it, I'm not sure. Jim

I noticed you made no provisions for a horn, starter, engine kill switch or one of the two brake switches. Was this intentional? I can understand leaving out the starter and kick starting the bike, but the horn, engine kill switch and second brake light switch are safety items. I'm working up two drawings in Microsoft Visio now - the first will be a schematic diagram with regular electric symbols, and that ones about 80% done. The second diagram will be a block wiring diagram like the one you have here, with the different parts in their relative locations on the bike in the interest of crating a wiring harness. Do you have a schematic or wiring diagram for the rectifier/regulator you're using? Regards, Jim

I'm right with you - I need to do exactly the same thing for a friend's '75 XS. It looks like you've already done a good bit of the research. We may be doing this at the same time, or you might be a little ahead of me, since we've got a little bit of engine work to do. Let me know how this works out - if you get done ahead of us, let us know how it worked out. Thanks for your pioneering, and good luck with your project. Jim

Hi folks, I'm Jim in Miami, Florida. I just found this forum while browsing through the SR forum. I've been riding since 1960, and currently have several bikes: 1976 XS650C, 1978 SR500E, SR500 race bike, 1974 BMW R90S and 2000 BMW R1100RA. The XS650 is a great bike! if you know where to look, there are parts and help galore. I've had my 650 for about 12 years now - I bought it from a friend who bought it new in 1976. I actually rode this bike when it had about 30 miles on it! Excess 650s forever!
