Gents
This has provoked vigorous discussion on other forums (fora?) so I don't suppose there's a definitive answer yet but, working on the principle that a disposable cartridge filter can only be an improvement on the standard tea strainers, an extra few cc's of oil and never having to take the sump off again lean me towards the sump conversion.
My rationale being; if you change the oil & filter regularly, the bypass pressure in a cartridge filter shouldn't become an issue unless the engine is on the point of suffering catastrophic failure anyway?
So... who markets a ready made conversion? I can get an all new sump plate from the Tired Kraut in Germany for £125, does anyone know how much Howard at Smedspeed charges or anyone else who does the conversion? I would have a go myself but don't have access to machine tools so anything would need to be easily manufactured with hacksaw/files/power drill.
Cheers all.
