I got lucky and picked up a xs75o tank with zero rust and dents. Paint is in pretty good shape. Too good, so I am having second thoughts about painting it. But I do like the shape better than the stock tank and it holds about 1/3 more gas. All for $100. The thing is the mating pieces that hold it to the frame at the front are opposite from the 65o tank, also lower and wider apart. Yikes. Steps I did with a friend who could fabricate. Ground off most of the lips off the female ends off the tank connection points. I left the base on, because the tank is really thin and I wanted a base to weld to. Made two tabs of steel and welded on 11mm of 7/8" tubing. this is where the rubber grommits fit. There purpose is to lower the attaching point and move it farther back. Doglegged them because they had to be wider than were the 750 points are. You can see it in the photo. The black paint was done quickly, its rust paint and I wanted to cover up the bare steel. I will redo the bottom part of the tank with an under coating. The stock fuel taps dont fit, but the following do: www.650motorcycles.com/Petcock.htmlHere are some photos to give you an idea what we did: I hope this helps someone. Dont try this alone, you need an extra set of hands.

Boy that a nice tank for $100 bucks. I would leave the paint as is it looks pretty nice. Was that a mig you welded it with? That seems like it should work fine :-)
