Did you see where they are making a new Norton Cafe Race. They aren't cheap either, but the look cool.

The new Norton is the long time dream of Kenny Dreer who got to the point of design and construction of prototypes but then could not get sufficent funding to continue. Stuart Garner was able to pick up the pieces from poor Kenny for a bargain and move the whole works to England where he continued with the developement and production. Dreer doesn't get enough credit since the motorcycle you see is a dead ringer for the one he designed. www.nortonmotorcycles.com/bikes/So the new Norton was conceived and designed in the USA. jTom Graham

$22,950 depending on the currency value that day. I have always wanted a 60s TR6 so that stuff has always been kind of interesting to me. When they started making the new Triumphs I wasn’t really impressed because they didn’t sound the same and the first ones were water cooled. I am old enough that I remember when vintage bikes were on the road but I never could afford the one that didn’t have OIF so I went without. I think those New Norton’s look pretty cool and wonder if they are any good? (That is not to say the OIF were bad I just never knew if I was going to get one with cracks or not so I didn't take the chance). It's always about money but as long as we know who designed them we can apperciate his work

I bought one new in 1971. The fastest quarter mile for a bike that year. My friends had a Honda 750 four and a Mach III. The Norton would walk both every time, every condition. It had 1500 miles when I high sided it on twisty Rt 374 in the Old Man's Cave area. I put it back together as a Cafe Racer and eventually moved to LA. I rode it to the Rock Store most Sundays. Yes, I have a checkered history with a Norton.

:-) My dad's friend had a Norton that was new at the time. It was faster than his TR6 he told me. I saw the guy with the norton race a triumph once and it was a lot faster than anything around. Back in those days there were Harleys, Indians, Triumps, BSA and that was it, the Nortons were rare and to me new at the time.

XS Rod,
I live in Columbus. I was living in LA on Beverly Glen Canyon in the summer of 1974. It was a shack about half way between Sunset Blvd. and Mulholland Dr. I bopped around and met some people but LA just didn't fit me.

I know the area he's talking about. Boy it's a long way from Columbus. Heck in 74 there were a lot of old places up in there. I lived in Ventura county most of my life, so that's not far from there.

Remember Norton's full-page photo ads in the 70's? Classic racy lines, soft comfy seats, big round headlights. The bikes were awesome too.
