Anti-seize is your friend here. I use it on just about every fastener on my bike.

I hear you on the pucker factor and chuckled out loud on that one. Yeah stainless is pretty stuff, but aside from it not being malleable it sucks when you drop a piece of hardware and it's not in love with your magnet.

In an industrial environment most of the stainless bolts are gallled from over use so if you can get them out you have to chase threads on a lot of stuff. Since the metal is so hard I had to buy really good drills and taps to work on those machines. Not to mention the magnet thing. I also had to buy carbide machine tools becasue my high speed steel was not hard enough. I don't think I made any money working there the first year, but I have some really nice tools now. I really like nice tools :-)

Yep it wouldn't be my first choice of places to live. I spent most of my life in Ojai and Santa Barbara. I worked offshore or in Venture most of that time. My folks had an orange orchard up here so when Dad died I ended up having to move here to manage things. Working offshore 7 on 7 off made the change possible at the time but I hated leaving Santa Barbara.

As I recall ... it is a very nice town. You have a Yamaha shop in Visalia?

I wish :-) I was an offshore platform operator and I've been in the stock market since I was 19 that gives me the freedom to work at the jobs I want so I have been working with my brother. We sold his trash disposal busniess and used the money to buy foreclosed houses. They needed work so we have been working on that and just finished. I'm not working right now. I am one of those kind of people that can't sit Idle for long so once the bike is finish I'll have to find something else to do. Before the platforms I was a mechanic and welder most of my life. the last Job I had was as a maintenance mechianic in high speed packaging. it was quite an experience. I like the robotics
